If you are a WordPress blogger, then you must have a plan to backup your blog(s). The backup should include the database and all of the WordPress folders and files.

The are many choices available to do this. Some are rather costly and others are free. Some work, some don't. Some backup just certain things, but not everything.

The Duplicator plugin proved to be a lifesaver for me in April of 2014. I have been using it since April of 2014 and it is a First Class item to use with WordPress. And it is 100 % free, although they have a paid version also.

This is what happened to me in April of 2014.

I had 100 WordPress blogs spread over 2 domains (50 on each). Around April 25, 2014, both of my domains were hacked and everything got destroyed/deleted. This was from a very reputable hosting company.

When I realized something had happened, the hosting company was immediately called to find out what was going on. I will not disclose the name of the company, but I will never use them again or even suggest them.

They informed that my domains had in fact been hacked. After a few hours had passed, they sent me an email stating that they had a backup and could restore them. Again, this was from a very reputable hosting company.

They sent me another email after the restore had been completed and everything seemed to be back up and functioning. All of my 100 blogs were back up and functioning again.

Then 2 days later, the same thing happened again. Every blog on each domain had been trashed again. As soon as I realized there was another serious problem, I called the hosting company and told what was going on. Again, this was from a very reputable hosting company.

Somewhere between 2-3 hours later, since I had not received any type of communication from them, I called them to find out what is going on.

This time, they tell me they have NO backups to restore any of my 100 blogs. Again, this was from a very reputable hosting company.

Well needless to say, I was pissed, I was furious. As soon as I got off the phone with them, I try to compose myself and then I began looking for a new hosting company. I made up a list of questions to ask and after calling several, I found one.

This new company is much more reasonable with what they charge and they do daily backups. This is something that made me happy. So during each month they have 30 backups they can use to restore your blog(s), if they are any problems.

They helped me setup a new account. In less than 2 hours the new site was usable. While waiting for the site to be functional, I decided that instead of having 2 domains again, I decided to have 1 domain, with 1 blog and have 100 categories.

Now I could use the backups created by the Duplicator plugin and start re-creating each blog.

This plugin was and is a tremendous help to me.

Duplicator is a free WordPress plugin that allows you to:

1. Backup the blog's database

2. Backup the blog's WordPress files and folders

3. Restore a damaged or corrupt blog

a.) Database

b.) WordPress files and folders

4. Clone an existing blog into a new blog and then modify the new blog as you want

After creating a new blog, it might take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours to get everything setup the way you desire.

By cloning an existing blog into a new blog, it takes less than 10 minutes.

If you have never built a website before, one of the quickest and easiest ways to get your first domain live and operational in only minutes is to install WordPress on your website.

WordPress is a blogging platform that allows you to have a pre-built website for free that will allow you to focus on the more important items like content, and if you desire it, sales and profits.

WordPress Benefits

In more than a decade online, I have literally built dozens of websites, many from the ground up... But since I discovered the ease of use and powerful flexibility of the WordPress platform, I am building most of my newest websites under this Content Management System (CMS).

The reasons I prefer the WordPress blogging platform are many, but I will sum it up with the following five key benefits:

1. Quick and Easy Installation - If you have a web hosting company that runs cPanelX as your webmasters' control panel (many of the more popular web hosting companies do), then you will find an option in your control panel called, "Fantastico De Luxe". When you click on the Fantastico icon, you will be taken to a page where you can add a multitude of free applications to your website, by following some simple instructions. Just click on the WordPress link to install WordPress on your website. The software will ask you some basic general information, then do the full install of one of the most recent WordPress builds into your website.

2. Website Themes - Few webmasters want to use the generic WordPress Theme that ships with WordPress. The default WP Theme is plain Jane, and to my taste, perfectly drab. There are many people who design custom WordPress Themes that you can easily upload to your domain, to change the appearance and feel of your WordPress website. Some of the WP Themes are paid versions, but most of them are free. There are more than one thousand themes loaded directly into the WordPress website ( wordpress.org/extend/themes/ ), from which you can choose, although you are not limited to just the themes loaded into the WordPress website.

3. Website Functionality - Just like with the WordPress Themes, if there is a specific functionality you want your blog to perform, there are programmers out there who have made WordPress Plugins that will do for you those things you would like to do. There are nearly 8,000 WordPress Plugins on the WordPress.org website ( wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ ), and thousands more that are not in the WordPress database. If you find a Plugin you want, just download, unzip, and upload it to the appropriate Plugin directory on your blog. After you have uploaded the Plugin, simply go to the Admin area of your Blog to activate the software.

4. Open Source - WordPress has been built in PHP, and its source code is visible to everyone who wants to look at it. On top of that, WordPress has included comprehensive documentation and a range of functions to help programmers work within the WordPress Codex. Anyone with a minimal knowledge of PHP can program WordPress Themes and Plugins, without too much effort.

5. Self-Updating - In recent versions, WordPress has included a feature that will notify you if upgrades are available for the basic WordPress operating system or your chosen WP Plugins. When upgrades become available, you will be notified, and often you only need to click a link to automatically install the upgrades and updates.

I have a friend who is a PHP coder by trade. I try not to mention WordPress in his presence, because every time I do so, I get an ear-full of "WordPress Sucks..."

To be honest with you, I still like WordPress... I like it, because it is easy to install and maintain, and I can improve it easily by using templates and plugins.

I am a coder, but life is too short to spend all of my time coding new websites... I am happy to spend my time creating content that will lead to sales... So for me, WordPress is good, and I am happy to put it on as many websites as I need to do...

If you are new to the Internet, then you might agree that WordPress is a blessing to those of us, who have more important things to do than to recreate the wheel...

Essential WordPress Plugins

With a growing list of over 20,000 plugins, sometimes it's a little tricky figuring out just which plugins to use! This is a quick overview of 12 essential WordPress plugins that every WordPress Blog should have. The good news is (at the time of writing this) they are all completely free. The below essential WordPress plugins relate to enhancing WordPress functionality, security, SEO and Social Marketing.

# 1 - Secure-WP

Security should always be your first concern when anything is publicly accessible on the internet - that is why I rank Secure-WP as being one of the most essential WordPress plugins out there. Do not get me wrong - WordPress does a great job natively of securing your Blog, providing that you keep the version updated.

However, Secure-WP bolsters that security further by removing oodles of information that could have been used by hackers and removing some sensitive material from user accounts, while preserving this information in the administrator's account. Good stuff!

The first is W3 Total Cache. This plugin is massively downloaded, downloaded almost 1.2 million times! It helps speed up your site by improving server performance, caching every aspect of your website, reducing download times and providing transparent content delivery network (CDN) integration. In short, it makes your WordPress Blog faster!

# 4 - WP Optimize

WordPress is database driven. The more efficient the database is, the quicker pages can be accessed from the database, the faster your site loads to your visitors. However, over time, a WordPress database can become polluted with needless information (such as deleted content, spam comments, old page revisions, etc.). This increases the overall size of the database and increases access times to that database. The end result - your pages take longer to open.

WP Optimize cleans up your database automatically and keeps it streamlined by removing needless information on an ongoing basis.

# 5 - WP Database Backup

In terms of essential WordPress plugins, backing up your data is right up there. It's something we all leave until it's too late, and then wish we had not. WP Database Backup makes it simple to backup the core. Ultimate Follow Me is actually a WordPress side bar widget that links to your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other Social media platforms. It now also includes Google +1, which is generally viewed as a very prominent way to increase your search engine rankings.

I have demo'd quite a few of these Social marketing plugins. While they all do pretty much the same thing, Ultimate Follow me generally presents the social media icons a little "prettier". There are various sizes to choose from and looks great in the sidebar - your visitors are sure not to miss them!

# 10 - Shareaholic

Another of the essential WordPress plugins I can not do without! The plugin automatically creates a gorgeous little social marketing bar at the bottom of your posts where people can like your post on Facebook, Tweet it to their Twitter account, or share on many, many social bookmarking websites.

At the time of writing this, Shareaholic supports 85 sites! It also comes in 3 flavors, classic bookmarks, sexy bookmarks and sassy bookmarks. Once you have decided which social sites to use, Shareaholic automatically posts the links to the bottom of every page or post - although you do have the option to override the plugin on a per page basis so it does not show.

# 11 - Google Analytics Dashboard

The Google Analytics Dashboard tracks visitors to each of your pages from within your WordPress dashboard, so no need to login to your Google Analytics account! You are also able to embed parts of the analytics directly into posts or as part of your theme. One caveat to this plugin is that it does not display the full information you will get from your Google Analytics account. It does give you the basic information you need to see who's visiting what, which is mostly what I look for in my Analytics account anyway.

# 12 - Page Links To

For me personally, this is one of the most essential WordPress plugins I use. I use it primarily in relation to the content I use on the front page. The front page descriptions of Blogs generally take the first 200 characters or so of the actual article page and display them as the advertising wordage.

The problem is, sometimes I do not want to use the first 200 characters of my articles as the wordage that displays on my front page, relating to that article, so what do I do? I create an additional page, with the words I do want to use, and use the Page Links To plugin to redirect that page to the actual post.

I am not a HUGE fan of twitter as any of you who follow me already know. I rarely use it, though I should, but a lot our readers do use twitter and absolutely love it. So allow them to spread the love across their 140-character-long diaries.

3. Facebook Like Button

I love the Like button, I include it at the end  of every blog post. The cool thing is it will tell you everyone who liked it, and sometimes it'll be someone the reader is friends with or respects if they are heavy in your niche. Which causes them to respect you and your content even more, and make it more likely to share your stuff with the world.

4. Commentluv

Let us be honest. Majority of people reading a blog, especially in the make money niches and network marketing niches, have something they want to sell too. To reward these people for commenting on our blogs, we become a "Dofollow" blog and allow their latest blog post to appear on our own blog. This allows them to do a little bit better advertising of their content when they comment to enrich our own.

I love commentluv, cause it builds really good backlink juice, which for you SEO nuts is awesome.

This is a requirement if you want be successful with SEO on a blog as far as I am concerned, and really easy to use.

6. Google Analyticator

This plugin is a behind-the-scenes deal, but basically using this tool you can quick updates on traffic coming to your blog. What is even cooler is going into the back office they have and you can see exactly where everyone is coming from. Whether predominantly from facebook, or from the search engines. Of course, the biggest traffic source you want is called "Direct".

Meaning people actually just come on the internet and type in your blog into the address bar! Because those are the people who are loyal fans and like what you have to say.

Other useful information are things like understanding bounce rates, and the most frequented pages on your blog. Don't get lost in the numbers, but do understand what they are saying about your blog so you can adjust and optimize everything.

7. Google XML Sitemaps

Also a powerful SEO plugin. This automatically creates a sitemap on your blog which helps with SEO. Basically the sitemap organizes everything more neatly and makes the Google spiders and gods go through your content and index it quicker and better. (Which means higher rankings on the search engines)

8. WP Ezinearticles

I really like this, no idea how helpful it TRULY is, but I believe it is worth to have on your blog even if you're not big into article marketing. Basically what it does is creates a little box in your wordpress "Add new post" section. When you are done writing your post, you can click the "submit" button and it will automatically send your blog post to Ezinearticles as a submitted article all in the span of a few seconds.

Saves a lot of hassle if you enjoy submitting articles like me.

9. ThatMLMBeat Beat It Button

I just started using this myself, it is a plugin similar to tweetmeme only instead of twitter it shares your content on ThatMLMBeat. A website community focused on blogging specifically in the mlm/network marketing and internet marketing niches. Everytime someone clicks on it, your post will get bumped up into the top and front page of their community.

Which is pretty awesome targeted traffic for most of us in this niche! You do need a ThatMLMBeat account, but that's for free unless you want the premium. Highly recommend it.

10. SSG Google Wordpress Audio Player

I LOVE this thing. This is one of my favorite wordpress plugins, if not THE BEST wordpress plugn on this list in my opinion.

You see, I hate doing videos but I love doing audios. (You know got that hot Alaskan silky voice haha) and doing interviews. I actually have a small library of interviews with many six-figure income earners in our profession I have been waiting to whip out and never had a chance to till I found my hosting solution. See I was messing with Amazons3 and all this other crap I couldn't figure out, till my friend Brandon Connell told me about this plugin.

It hosts all of your audio on your blog for free and it will also embed an actual audio player inside your blog post instead of your reader having to open up a new window for your audio (for free). Super useful.

Please do not look at this as a definitive list. I love blogging, but it is a constantly changing and evolving world. There is new plugins coming out all the time. And some plugins I know of that I use that I didn't mention here (but will soon in another post) used for different purposes. These are the basics, the stuff I believe every network marketing blog if not at least blog itself should have.

The greatest piece of advice I can give you on using and finding the best wordpress plugins is network with other active bloggers. Constantly be on the search for them. Developers are always coming out with new and cool things that you can use. So keep your eyes OPEN.
