When you start setting up an internet business, one of the first tools you'll need is a website. These days we can all put up our own website using WordPress. With a little bit of training anyone really can do this so there is no need to pay a webmaster to do it for you. One thing I have found that makes working on my website much easier is to use the WordPress plugins feature.
What are plugins?
Plugins are bits of coding that we can add to our website in order for us to achieve a particular function. They become particularly useful to those of us who do not have any coding knowledge, but want to add a feature to our site. For example, if you want to add content to your site and allow members to access that content, then you would just need to find a plugin for memberships and add it to your site. Without plugins you'd have to go and learn the coding to be able to set up your membership site.
If you need to add some function or feature to your website, there is bound to be a plugin that has been developed for that purpose.
How To Upload Plugins To Your Site
To add a plugin to your website, go to your dashboard and click on 'Plugins' on the left hand side bar menu, then click on 'Add New' and use the 'search' feature to find what you need. You should only add those plugins that you need as loading too many can slow your website down. Sometimes plugins can conflict with each other and cause issues, so it is a good idea to do some research to make sure they are recommended and rated by others first.
Some Precautions When Working With New Plugins
If you plan to add a new plugin to your site, back your website up first in case something goes wrong. There are a number of good back up plugins you can use to do this. If you plan on trying out newer plugins, for which there are not many recommendations by others, it's a good plan to have a dummy, or test website that sits on another domain. You could make a clone of your site; there is a plugin for that too! Then use the clone as a dummy to test out the new plugins.
So, there you have an easy way to add functionality to your websites without having to go and learn all that coding language and theory. Just search for a plugin that will serve the purpose. This will save you time when you're setting up an internet business.
